TO ALL MY LITERATE GRADE 9 STUDENTS...

SAWASDEE PHI MAI, KHRAP!

Before anything else, let me wish you and your families A Wonderful Thai New Year and a safe and fun-filled Songkran Break...!

Now...down to business...! I have a number of SONGKRAN BREAK HOMEWORK/ASSIGNMENTS for you to work on given the 10 days you are going to "miss" seeing me and/or “miss” being in my class. Start and finish it immediately so you will have more time to enjoy and relax during your break.

FIRST…you have the entire Songkran Break to read and take notes on the novel The Glass Menagerie…at this point in time, if you suddenly stop and ask yourself the question, “What Glass Menagerie?”…then you are in deep, deep, deep trouble simply because despite the number of times I repeated this in class and even wrote it on the board for you to see, you chose not to listen and did not bother checking out the book from the library like I told you to do…!

SECOND…I am going to ask for an update from every group on what you have already accomplished on your ODYSSEY movie production when we get back to school. Leaders and members of each group…make sure to take notes of the workers and the slackers in your group for peer rating purposes…I have an Evaluation Sheet you will be filling up when we get back…!

THIRD…you will be having your second Test on the Literary Terms Application as soon as we get back from the break. Also, I will be testing you as well on our Words To Own list as soon as we get back from the break…!

FOURTH…We will continue and finish discussion of Romeo & Juliet ACT FIVE when we get back from the Songkran Break…!

FIFTH…on an A4/F12/DS/TNR, write me a two page essay of how your Songkran Break is…try to be as honest as possible in relating the events that transpired during your holidays…if it was boring, then write about it…if it was fun, then tell me what made it fun. Do not write this until the weekend before we start school again. Here’s the catch, you have to write it as a Persuasive Essay, meaning, you have to convince me whether it was really a boring break for you or an exciting one. Research and find out how to write a Persuasive Essay…!

LASTLY…start memorizing and practicing and working on your Choral Recitation pieces. I want the Title of Chosen Piece and the Members of the Group turned in to me through your http://homework9-valente.blogspot.com/ blog please…first come first serve basis…meaning if a title has already been posted, it cannot be chosen anymore by any other group…I will be posting tonight between 8:15PM-8:45PM…stay tuned…!

That’s All Folks! Have a safe and wonderful Songkran Break and come back refreshed and ready to Rock-N-Roll for the final stretch of the year. This is it…the end zone…you have to give it all you got since there is no more room for “I’ll do better next quarter.” Be good and get all your homework/assignments out of the way as soon as possible so that you can enjoy your break to the max…CIAO!!!

TO ALL MY LITERATURE 9 STUDES...

GREETINGS!

Please be informed that we will be having our Choral Recitation of the poems listed below by the time we get back from our Songkran Break...most probably around second week of May 2009.

In connection with this, I would like you to find six to eight (6-8) other people you would like to work with for this performance. You are going to recite altogether whatever piece you have chosen in front of an audience. When I say recite, I mean memorized lines, proper recitation with feelings and emotions, proper pauses, and in unison...think of it in terms of a Choral Recitation. Here are the poems...

- The Lesson Of The Moth (p.140)
- Daily (p.495)
- I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud (p.510)
- Beware: Do Not Read This Poem (p.531)
- The Seven Ages Of Man (pp.536-537)
- The Gift (p.564)
- Fifteen (p.571)
- The Girl who Loved The Sky (pp.576-577)
- Ain't I A Woman? (p.611)
- Your Laughter (p.853)

That's All Folks! CIAO!!!

GHONG XI FAH CHAI...HONG PAO NA LAI?!

Here are your Chinese New Year Break homework/assignments...I promised you it won't be much, so that's exactly what it'll be.

FIRST...work on and continue memorizing your R&J lines; as soon as we get back from the break, we are immediately going to have an Oral Test without using your textbooks...this'll mean I will call your group up front and you will deliver your lines without gestures or actions, and I will be grading you...!

SECOND...on a WSP...give me an EVALUATION of all the members of your group, except yourself, by first giving them a rating of 1-5, where 1 is th lowest and 5 is the highest, then justify it by giving a short explanation of why the individual got that grade...!

THIRD...we will be having another Literary Terms Test on the first day we meet as a class...50 words and it'll be 100 points...!

FOURTH...we will be discussing your last novel two weeks after we get back from the break...either WOO, TKMB, or PB...so reread it if you have to and review your notes on it...!

LASTLY...Read and understand The Gift of the Magi, pages 202-207 of your text; take notes and focus on the twist that happened in the story; answer numbers 1-8 of page 209 in your notebook...!

That's All Folks! Finish all your homework/assignments immediately so you can enjoy your break more...do not procrastinate and leave it off to the weekend before school starts. Take care and be safe always if ever you are going out of town or out of the country...be ready to Rock-N-Roll as soon as we get back...and of course...enjoy your vacation! Do not miss me too much. Be good and study well...CIAO!!!

Now...down to business...! I have a number of HOLIDAY HOMEWORK/ASSIGNMENTS for you to work on given the 15 days you are going to "miss" seeing me and/or “miss” being in my class.

FIRST…you have the entire break to re-read and understand the story POISON by Roald Dahl, in case you have not done so yet. Answer numbers 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 on page 91 (NB). I will be giving you a Check-UP Quiz on this story when we return from the holidays so be prepared…!

SECOND…be ready to discuss the story OMAM as soon as we get back. We will be working on that first before POISON...!

THIRD...you should be memorizing, planning, and working on your ROMEO & JULIET Scenes already. FOURTH…We will begin discussing ACT ONE of ROMEO & JULIET sometime before the Chinese New Year Break. Make sure to start understanding the lines little by little so that you will not have to do it all last minute again. By then, we should’ve been done with our OMAM and POISON discussion already

This one you will not be able to do until after the New Year, so I suppose you’ll have to leave it for last…!

GREETINGS, MY PRECIOUS FRIENDS...!

Since it will not be until Tuesday, 02 December 2008, that we will meet, I am left with no other choice but to give you extra work on the current story we are reading...The Birds...in preparation for your coming Mastery Test!

On an A4/F12/DS/TNR, list down 15 series of events that took place in the story from beginning to end. In class today, we did a similar thing where we went through the sequence of things that happened in the plot of the story. I want you to do the same, however, this time, I want you to choose the events you think are pertinent to the story.

Your first one should be..."Nat Hocken believes that this is going to be a dark winter indeed."...and your number 15 should be..."Nat Hocken threw the empty packet on the fire and watched it burn."...!

Fifteen minus two...you only have 13 more to think about...but remember, all those 13 series of events should be enough to describe and discuss the entire story.

That's All Folks!!! I want this turned in to me on Friday, 28 November 2008, no later than period after lunch. Once we head over to the gym at 1:30PM for the concert, I will no longer accept papers. Take care and be safe...study well and be good...don't miss me too much...CIAO!!!
